Halloween Fun

This evening was dedicated to some Halloween fun with the neighbors. We walked up the stairs to our charming upstairs neighbors John and Ian, and had some drinks with our other neighbors, Colleen and Tracy. They brought over some friends, and we all made our way down to the Central West End, where a large party was in progress. There were hundreds of people, nearly all of whom were in great costumes.

I really enjoy Halloween. Forget its past, and think about the reality. It is a day for you to dress up in ludicrous clothing and drink alcohol. If you don’t drink, then you can dress up in ludicrous clothing anyway. For kids, you can dress up in ludicrous clothing and receive candy. I can’t see anything wrong with this situation.

I dressed up in a black jumpsuit with red and silver stripes (Jana may remember it), a bright red cape, and a black helmet decorated with blue and silver stripes, and big glow-in-the-dark stars. I was Evil Knievel, or just a stunt driver, or the Human Cannonball, whichever you wanted. I got quite a bit of attention. At one point, a group of young Asian girls came up, all wanting a picture with me. I proceeded to pose with girl after girl, putting my arm around them and making a ridiculous Speed Racer pose, while they all laughed hysterically and took pictures. It is possible they were making fun of me, but I had a good time with it, so I don’t mind. Madalene was a British Imperialist Jungle Explorer, you know the type. Pith helmet, khaki clothes, canteen, and a fierce desire to tame the wilderness, bring civilization to the savages, and add to the Queen’s Empire, all while maintaining a perfect shave, and well ironed clothing. God Save the Queen.

Colleen and Tracy dressed up as Howard Dean supporters, which they are. They aren’t that into costumes, so the fact that we got them into anything at all was a real success. John dressed up as Rams Football player Kurt Warner, a role he fit perfectly due to his tall muscular frame. Ian dressed up as the devil, but wearing a suit and women’s makeup. It fit him well.

After hanging out at the CWE party for a while, we headed to the Loop, and had some beverages at Blueberry Hill. Thankfully, we were now within easy walking distance of home, so I no longer had to adhere to my designated driver status. After some time there, we went to the Halo bar down the street for some dancing. After a beer and some music, I’ve now arrived at home to write this. And now that it is done, I’m going to bed.

Pictures of our costumes, and some of the funny ones from the populace, are coming soon. Happy Halloween.

Update: For those of you who wish to view photos, you can see them in the Halloween Gallery. Enjoy!
